Propane and Natural Gas have benefits over gasoline in some applications. The use of propane may decrease the output of your generator. Check with manufactures of the kits for details.
Storage
When used only to supply stand-by electricity, the generator may not be used for months. Gasoline will deteriorate and cause carburetor problems if the generator is not used or run frequently or if the fuel is not drained before storage. If you are using gas for your generator it is recommend to run it for 1hr each month, under load if possible. In some applications propane or natural gas would not affect the reliability of the generator during periods of non-use.
Convenience
Constant use for stand-by or primary power
requires frequent refueling. Many business and residential locations
have propane or natural gas service available that can be tapped into
the fuel the generator. Propane and Natural Gas conversion kits are
available for the models listed below. The kits are provided by the
manufacturers listed and are sold direct. Please note: A Tri-fuel
kit will allow the generator unit to still function on gasoline. In
addition, the unit will be able to use propane or natural gas as an
alternative fuel.
Contact Information
Contact these manufacturers for information regarding price,
installation, shipping etc. The use of these alternative fuel kits does
NOT void the factory warranty. However, failures or damage caused by
improper kit installation or adjustments, or ventilation for the generator
will not be covered by Yamaha's factory warranty. These are excellent
companies and we have found them to be very helpful.

Transfer Switches - Only use one transfer switch per generator. Most municipalities require a transfer switch when a generator is used for backup power for any building or structure that is serviced by municipal power. Equipment installation should comply with local building codes and be performed by a licensed electrician. Transfer switches are available through aftermarket sources. They include:
